The scholarship applicant must be currently enrolled full-time as a junior
education major at a college or university in Pennsylvania.
The applicant must (1) demonstrate an outstanding academic record, (2)
exhibit a sincere interest in reading and literacy, and (3) obtain a written
recommendation from two education professionals at his/her college or
university. The professional recommendation should consider the applicant’s
congeniality, integrity, special honors and awards, community involvement, and
school activities. The recommendation should not exceed a 250 word limit.
Scholarship applications must be received by the local KSRA reading council
in time for the council to select a candidate and send the selected
application forms to the KSRA Scholarship Committee chairperson by the
designated deadline.
The state committee must receive scholarship application forms by March 31.
The committee will not consider applications received after the deadline.
The final selection for the KSRA scholarship will be determined by the
Scholarship Committee in April. The KSRA Scholarship Committee will review the
applications and make its recommendation using the following criteria for

The congratulatory letter and scholarship check will be sent to the local
council president.
